JACOB TREEBEARD BROWN
It began in mystery and it will end in mystery,
but what a savage and beautiful country lies in between. – D. Ackerman
Against all odds, Jacob Treebeard Brown was born on August 18, 2003 with a genetic condition called NEMO. One of his genes, the one that controls immune system and skin function, doesn’t work properly. After enduring a series of life-threatening infections, Jacob received a new chance at life, a bone marrow transplant on December 6, 2006. The transplant was successful, but both the process and the recovery have been incredibly grueling - it’s been a long, difficult journey. (For Jacob's Story, pictures of the transplant year, etc. please click on the "Archive" button.) Jacob is currently battling a serious transplant-related complication called Graft-vs.-Host-Disease. He spends 3-4 days a week at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, one of three medical centers in the country able to offer the cutting-edge therapy that promises his best chance at healing. Through it all, he’s been a cheerful, tough, and brave soul.
cure4treebeard.org tells the story of these savage and beautiful days.
