Cincy Visits
By Daddy on 6/17/2009 8:39 AM

Hi…the delinquent blogger here.  So I have some catching up to do for everyone.  Two weeks ago we had a pretty uneventful visit to Cincinnati.  JT needed a blood transfusion and then was able to get two full rounds of photopheresis therapy.  JT’s medical team is not thrilled that he is needing so many blood transfusions but because the photo treatment takes so much volume of blood out of his body at one time it is imperative that he have an adequate number of baby red blo ...

By Daddy on 5/21/2009 8:49 AM

Hi Everyone.  This update comes from inpatient room #9 in Cincinnati.

JT and I came for his normal photopheresis treatment on Tuesday morning.  When we arrived at 10:00 ...

Springtime
By Daddy on 5/16/2009 4:25 PM
(Brian). Springtime. This is an especially good one, because as the earth opens up and becomes green, our family’s world is also opening up.

Justy turned four on April 27 and we celebrated big. He was a gracious host. The boy loves music, and when I returned from picking up the pizza, I found all of our guests down in the playroom where Justy had given each one a musical instrument and was leading his own sing-along. The first thing he did when he saw that I’d joined the group was run to bring me a little drum before resuming his conducting. He’s a great kid and it’s true what everyone says – he’s growing up faster than I could have imagined.

Easter and everything after
By Daddy on 4/24/2009 5:07 PM
Brian here. Sorry about the lapse in updates – life moves fast and time is the most elusive of commodities these days. So, Easter and everything after…

Easter was great for everyone. Jodi headed to Florida for some much-needed and much-deserved rest and relaxation with her Dad and Charlene. They took good care of her and she enjoyed the break from all the demands of caring for her three boys.

We boys had fun too. We went all out, coloring Easter eggs, swimming at the YMCA, wrestling a lot. And on Good Friday the boys received their early Easter present. We were shooting for a resurrection, springing-forth-from-the ...

Cincy Trip
By Daddy on 4/2/2009 8:28 AM

Hi, It's Jodi again.  Just a quick update about our recent trip to Cincy this week...

JT's appointment schedule was a little different this week.  We had our normal 7:30am appt. on Monday and then instead of a 7:30am appt on Tuesday as usual, we didn't have to be back at the hospital until 12:30pm.  Hmmmm...what to do?  After going over all of our options JT settled on a trip to the Cincy museum to see a big dinosaur exhibit.  I was a little nervous as there tend to be lots of school field trips to the museum, but his heart was set on it so we forged ahead arriving just before the museum opened.  As I expected we were greeted by several school buses and lots of lines of kids.  I said a quick prayer, purchased our ...

Springtime and good news
By Daddy on 3/24/2009 5:40 PM

Brian here - it is so good to be able to offer some good news, finally, and lots of it. Preschool has been awesome. The boys love being with other kids and they’ve also been medically well. Sweet. JT still visits the ER every 2-3 weeks with unexplained fevers, but so far all of these recent episodes have resolved themselves with time and he’s been released from the hospital in the morning. Jodi and he return to Cincinnati next week, and after that trip, he’ll move to a once-every-three-weeks schedule. This is huge, for JT, for Jodi, and for our family. Less time in the hospital, more time at home. Things are finally moving in the right direction.

In other big news, JT lost his two front teeth! He’d been complaining that one was hu ...

More good news!
By Daddy on 3/6/2009 7:24 AM

Hi Everyone.  Lot’s happening here.  The boys returned to preschool this week.  It has been awesome!  They both love it.  JT went on Monday for the first time back and just when we were pulling into the college he said out loud, “Thank you, thank you, thank you Jesus!”   It was really cute.  When his ...

Great Visit to Cincy
By Daddy on 2/20/2009 7:45 PM

February 18

We’re in Cincinnati for photopheresis treatments and weekly infusions.  Great news is that they’ve dropped two of the infusions, cutting 2 ½ hours of infusion time out.  Yeah!

Good News
By Daddy on 2/14/2009 5:57 PM

Hi Everyone.  We received really good news while we were in Cincinnati last week.  Jacob’s immune system function studies came back in the normal ranges.  Based on these studies Dr. Filipovich has given us the green light to put the boys back in preschool at the beginning of March.  I’ll have to be honest here.  I’m being cautiously optimistic about this.

Another ER Visit
By Daddy on 1/25/2009 7:59 PM

Hi Everyone- Just a quick update...Jacob got another fever Friday night.  This seemed a little different as he was acting a bit more sick than the other times, moaning and throwing up.  Brian took him into the ER and they drew the CBC, blood culture and started the anitbiotics.  His white blood cell count and ANC came back pretty high, which can suggest infection.  The docs at Grove City and Cincy talked and it was decided to admit Jacob for 48 hours of observation and anitbiotics.  He had a low grade fever all night and finally returned to normal Saturday morning.  JT was back to his old self all day and felt fine the rest of the stay.  Brian and I traded on and off all weekend, one staying at the hospital and the other staying with Justy.  We were all a little bummed as we were looking forward to spending the weekend together as a family.  The good news is that our pediatrician in Grove City allowed us to be d ...
