Busy, busy, busy. The team recommended that we take JT home tonight, so we did. It’s overwhelming. Home health has already been out this evening to educate Jodi and me on the new routine. It seems hard to believe, but there’s actually more medical care required now than there ever has been before. He’s on NJ tube feeds around the clock, IV medications twice a day, and IV fluids 12 hours a day. In addition, we have to give him oral meds through his NJ tube all day long to make sure that we get them all in without another clogging nightmare. Jodi and I just tried to make up a daily schedule of how to get this all in: it starts before 7:00 a.m. and ends after 11:00 p.m. and there’s something medical to do or plan to do during every other hour of the day.
JT still can’t keep anything in his stomach and now he’s having problems out the other end too – lots of messy diapers today. The doctors are, as usual, less concerned than we are. Life will be much simpler for us all when his stomach settles and he’s able to eat and drink again. Please pray that this happens quickly.
I’m worn out after 2 weeks in the hospital, but tonight it became clear that Jodi’s upcoming week will be far more demanding. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as tomorrow she assumes full responsibility for providing JT’s medical care, a task that has for the past weeks occupied a team of doctors and nurses working around the clock. She’ll do a great job but it will be exhausting. She is a tough and capable woman and JT is lucky to have her for his mom.
He’s already acting much more like himself now that he’s out of the hospital. We took a quick spin out to the park where he saw a couple of deer and took a wobbly walk out to the treehouse with Jodi holding his feeding pump and bags over his head. There’s no doubt that he’ll heal faster here where he’s happier.
That’s about it. Again, please pray that God will bring this great work of healing in JT to completion. Please pray for strength and endurance for Jodi. I suppose you know the other specific prayer concerns by heart now if you’ve been keeping up with us. Thank you.
