“He is like a tree, planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.” --Psalms 1:3

Where to begin?  My heart is overflowing tonight as I bask in the joy of the past few days…all four of us under one roof,  all four snuggled together in one bed, all four riding in the van, all four pig piling on the living room floor - each delighting in God’s precious gift of family after five months of separation.

Jacob and Justice both beamed when they first saw one another.  They hugged, giggled, tackled and squealed – it was a sight to behold and believe me, Brian and I were beholding every second of it.  It was almost as if we were new parents again, but instead of saying, “Did you see him do this or that?” we were saying, “Did you see them do this?” or “Did you hear what they said to each other?”

I was a little nervous that Justice would bowl Jacob over with a much higher energy level, but Jacob held his own for the most part.  Brian and I were both impressed to see Jacob running around the apartment, chasing Justice, timbering off the bed and diving off the coffee table onto the couch cushions.  There was a moment though that made my heart ache – Jacob, Justice and I were all chasing each other around a bunch of boxes we had stacked up. After several laps Jacob went and sat down by the wall and said, “I’m just going to sit here and watch awhile.”  There wasn’t a shred of self-pity in his voice; it was pure excitement, like he was still partaking in the fun while taking a little rest.

I also had my concerns about how Justice would handle all the medical care that goes on.  He was a dream.  This boy is sweeter than dark chocolate cake covered with chocolate icing, drenched in chocolate syrup with sprinkles on top to boot.  When the medical routine was going on, he would say, “Jupa get the medicine” and then just watch or go play with a toy. It was almost as if he had an innate sense of the importance of what was going on.

Jacob received a myriad of medications over the course of our six day visit to help heal his physical body, but I truly believe the best medicine administered didn’t come from a bottle, tube or bag. It came from laughter, hugs, smiles and kisses.  And its healing power touched us all.
