You were all in for another depressing entry but now you have another thing coming.
It was mostly the same today: JT on the couch not wanting to do much and saying little except, “Daddy, I really don’t feel so well.” The nurse came out at 1:30 to draw labs.
I spoke with Gretchen, our nurse practitioner, at around 4:30. Thankfully, he is not dehydrated and his calcium remains good. However, his potassium was critically low. She told me to get out some potassium capsules we had and mix them up with something and get them into his NJ tube. I got them in before a late nap early this evening.
He got up and we watched the first half of The Incredibles and then I unhooked him from his feeds for an evening walk. He perked right up during the walk and when he got back, he was an entirely different boy. He kept telling me he was a superhero and he was talking and laughing and running around and everything. After I unhooked him from his IV Cyclosporine he jumped on the bed, jumped off the bed, hid in the closet…unbelievable.
I called Jodi and told her this is the most dramatic one-day turnaround I’ve seen in his whole life.
It’s hard to know how depressed I get down here sometimes until something like this happens and the fog rolls away and I feel so happy to see him so happy. It’s sweet.
Anyway, three cheers for potassium! Eat a banana to celebrate with us. Please pray that we can make good sense of all of this during his hospital appointment tomorrow and that he continues to feel better. Believe me, it makes all the difference in the world. Also, please remember Jodi’s Friday appt. at the Cleveland Clinic in your prayers. Thanks!
