It was an early morning here in Grove City. Justy and I had to leave by 6:30 am because I had a dentist appt. back in Youngstown. Brian and Jacob were to leave by 7:00am to head to Cincy. Several V & D episodes later, they ended up leaving by around 9:00am. They were only one hour late to Jacob's appointment though and everyone was understanding about it.
This day hospital visit was packed full of activity...JT got his IVIG infusion and his central line cap and dressing change, as usual. An x-ray was added to check the placement of his NG tube, which was found to be hanging out in his esophagus instead of his stomach - ugh! So they had to reposition the tube - always a bit unpleasant. Then Dr. Filipovich showed up and didn't like the looks of JT's foot sore at all. Dr. F asked Dr. Marsh to consult Dr. Lucky (our world renowned pediatric dermatologist). It just so happened that Dr. Lucky was in the clinic at the hospital today. Dr. Marsh got the message to Dr. Lucky but told Brian there was no way in the world she would have time in her schedule to see Jacob today. Just then Dr. Lucky appeared at the door. Dr. Marsh looked over at Brian in awe. Dr. Lucky is an amazing doctor, a very kind woman and we are grateful for her willingness to drop anything to see our son.
Her assessment was the same as Dr. Filipovich's - this strange looking thing, although most probably a fixed drug reaction, should be biopsied given Jacob's history of rare infections. So around 7:00pm Dr. Lucky took two biopsies from JT's foot - one to be sent to a specialty lab and one for the Cincy lab. Brian told me that Jacob was very brave with the whole procedure which doesn't surprise me.
By the time the biopsy was done and Brian started JT's cyclosporin it was 8:00pm when they left the hospital. It will be a very late night for both of them. They should arrive home around 2:30 in the morning. Please say a prayer for safe travels for them.
Thanks so much for checking in on us. We're grateful for your love, support and prayers.
