Last night was a late one: by the time JT and I got to bed it was almost 4:00 a.m. Thanks to those of you who prayed for safe traveling mercies. We made it home.
So now we’re waiting for the biopsy results. The working hypothesis (and our earnest hope) is that this is a “fixed drug reaction” caused by one of the new medicines he started last week. The lesion has become increasingly big and nasty-looking. We now keep it dressed and covered at all times to allow both the wound and the two biopsy holes to heal.
We had his feeds rolling at 30 ml/hour all day and he did great. I’m going to bump up to 35 ml/hr overnight but we’re not going to get too aggressive. I believe they’ll start to wean him from the TPN towards the end of this week and at that point we’ll start slowly trying to increase the feeds again.
JT is now putting food into his mouth and chewing it – then he spits it out into his “all done bowl.” This is several steps forward from where he was a couple months ago when he couldn’t even stand to be in the same room with me as I ate dinner. Still, he has a ways to go. We’re going to be more proactive about getting a Speech Therapist out to the house to help him start to swallow. Hopefully this too will be in motion by the end of the week.
Please pray for news tomorrow – that’s when we’re hoping to find out about the skin biopsies. And tomorrow morning workers arrive to start the major project that will allow us to move back in to the lower portion of our house – prayers for that to go well would also be appreciated! Thanks.
