“He is like a tree, planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.” --Psalms 1:3

Jacob is back in the hospital. Let me fill in the gaps from the last time that I updated the blog…

It’s been a rough week and a half since I last wrote. Justy was sick for 3-4 days and bounced right back, jolly the whole time. JT started with the D and V and it hasn’t stopped.

I took him to the hospital last week and our trip was a decent one. We had to stop 4 times during the drive down for D + V issues but the good news once we got there was that his liver numbers had improved to such an extent that Dr. Filipovich cancelled the consult with the liver doctors. Sweet.

Easter was low-key. The four of us celebrated Good Friday with a few holes of Frisbee Golf at Moraine State Park. The unexpected snow was a hit and we took advantage of it to make one last big snow fort in the yard. On Sunday Jodi had really cool Easter baskets for the boys and she hid 53 plastic eggs for them to find…good times. My parents came over for dinner and it was altogether nice.

Jodi drove to Cincinnati last night and she and JT spent the night at the ‘ol Hannaford Suites in preparation for his 8:30 am hospital appointment. When I called over my lunch, Jodi said they were going to admit him.

He has Adnovirus (sp?) in his blood. The bad news is that they have to pull out one of the big guns, a powerful anti-viral drug, to treat it. It’s a weekly infusion for 4 weeks. The good news is that if this is the main problem, the D and V should abate over the next weeks instead of stretching into months and months like the last time this got started. Of course the doctors were quick to point out that something else may be going on as well.

In other not-so-great-news he’s down 4 ½ pounds. That’s a lot for such a little guy. Dr. Marsh wanted to start TPN but after meeting with the dietician and putting together a round-the-clock bolus schedule, Jodi talked her into waiting a day on this. I really hope that we don’t have to go that route. So far, she’s been giving him the feeds and Pediasure through his tube since 8:00 am on the new schedule with no episodes so we’re encouraged.

His skin looked worse to the docs. So we’re stopping the topical steroids.

Jodi hopes to be discharged on Friday but the next day and a half will tell the story. I’m teaching a weekend graduate class Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday – thank God for my parents who cancelled their Friday plans and cheerfully volunteered to watch Justy for the next 4 days.

Please pray for JT, for his escalating health issues obviously, but also for his spirits. Pray also for Jodi as hospital life is always exhausting. Thank you.
