Sorry for the late update. Good news...no bacteria ever grew out of the blood cultures taken, so the doctors think the fever was related to a virus. We were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday early evening and had to report back to the hospital at 7:30am the next morning for photophersis in the day hospital. Everything went smoothly and then we headed to the zoo for a much needed break from the hospital. Jacob loved it, but it was still a little too hot for him. He overheated several times so we finally called it quits and decided we'd come back in a few weeks when it may be a tad bit cooler.
More good news...Dr. Filipovich decided to cut back Jacob's oral steroids to every other day. We're hoping that things continue to look good with this latest change. On the not so good side of things Jacob's white blood cell count and neutrophil count were extremely low on Thursday, which probably is a reflection of him having a virus, but none the less puts him at increased risk for getting more sick. The docs advised that we not send him to preschool on Friday and try to just lay low until our counts are back to normal. They gave him a dose of medicine that he hasn't had since right after transplant that helps to stimulate these counts. On top of all this Justy has had a cold for two weeks which was heading for an ear infection. The pediatrician put him on an oral antibiotic too. It's been a crazy couple of weeks.
The boys and I had a great day at home today. They have this new game where they run the hose down their playground sliding board and put the little blow up swimming pool at the bottom. They just fly down the slide and crash into the pool. It's great fun. Next we decorated for Autumn/Halloween. Then we spent some fun time at the park playground and hiked a bit too. We ended the evening with a trip to the dollar store, which they both enjoy very much. The little things are so good. I'm grateful for them tonight.
Thanks for checking in on us. I'm grateful for all your love, support and prayers. |
