“He is like a tree, planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.” --Psalms 1:3

Day +51

It was a pretty good day here in Cincinnati.  Jacob took his oral meds like a champ.  He really gets it when I explain to him that he has to swallow his medicines so that he won’t have to get another tube in his nose.  You can almost see the wheels turning and then he grabs the medicine cup and chugs it.  It’s obvious that taking his oral meds is really unpleasant for him, but he always says afterwards, “Those are making you feel better.”

He was able to drink a whole can of carnation instant drink mix, which has 250 calories in it, in addition to his regular consumption of milk and water.  Still, I’m a little nervous as to what tomorrow in day hospital may hold regarding the return of the yellow nose friend.   Jacob doesn’t have another appointment at the day hospital until next Wednesday and that may be a little too long for us to go with him not getting the daily calories and nutrients he needs.  We’ll see.

Today when we were out exploring for trains we had an unexpected “animal kingdom” of sorts moment…we were parked in an empty lot under the tracks and noticed a huge hawk on the ground by the fence.  We weren’t sure what he was up to, but there were a lot of bird feathers all around him.  We pulled the van right up next to him to get a better look and found he was standing on his dinner.   Next thing we knew another giant hawk swooped down and they started fighting and the other hawk took off with “our” hawk’s dinner.  Jacob got quite a bang out of the whole interchange, belly laughing and saying, “He stole his supper!”  Moments when Jacob is lost in laughter are precious for me.  For a brief moment in time he doesn’t have a care in the world – not fretting over the placement of another yellow nose friend or worrying about vomiting up his food or taking his oral meds or drinking still more carnation drink mix.

So we’re off to the day hospital tomorrow at 8:00am for another infusion.  Please pray again for more good labs and also for good decisions about nutrition.

Daddy and Aunt Rebecca are coming tomorrow in the early evening.  Jacob can’t wait.  He’s been scheming all day about dropping snowballs off our deck onto their heads when they arrive.

Thank you all for visiting our website and for praying so fervently for our son.
